Heart Surgeon Series

Heart Surgeon is a series of four talks delivered by Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad, intended to give practical and inspirational advice on reviving and refining the heart.

Part 1:

Preserving the Tongue

Although it is physically small, the tongue can have a disproportionate impact on others and on our own state. In this talk, Shaykh Abdal Hakim discusses how to control the tongue, and how it relates to our emotions and our hearts.

Part 2:

The Vice of Pride

The Qu’ran and the example of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) both warn strongly against pride. In this talk, Shaykh Abdal Hakim discusses the nature of pride and its dangers, which are contrasted with the beauty and nobility of prophetic humility.

Part 3:

Reconnecting the Heart

Our hearts are often distracted by the artificial and superficial all around us in the modern world. In this talk, Shaykh Abdal Hakim discusses some of the fundamental ayat (signs) in Allah’s creation that He in His Mercy has laid out as a means to revive the heart and purify ourselves from distraction.

Part 4:

The Science of Wayfaring

In this talk, Shaykh Abdul Hakim reminds us that Islam is not a fixed state of being, but a process of becoming. We are all returning toward Allah – our aim must be that this is not just by the inevitable process of time, but that it becomes also a spiritual progress, by which Allah brings us ‘out of the shadows and into the light‘.
